Do What's Right in Sports!

The "Do What's Right!" program in Illinois is a sportsmanship initiative run by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) that promotes good sportsmanship through various programs and awards. These include educational materials like the IHSA Sportsmanship Expectations, student leadership conferences, and awards such as the Do What's Right! Sportsmanship Banner Award and the Sport A Winning Attitude awards. The program also features a mascot named Add A. Tude, who represents proper behavior at events. 

Key components of the "Do What's Right!" program

  • Student leadership: Offers a bi-annual Student Leadership Conference to develop and empower student leaders who can then share their skills with their peers.
  • Educational materials: Provides resources like the IHSA Sportsmanship Expectations to guide and educate schools, students, coaches, and administrators.
  • Recognition and awards:
    • Sportsmanship Banner Award: Honors member schools that demonstrate exceptional sportsmanship at IHSA state final events.
    • Sport A Winning Attitude awards: Recognizes acts of sportsmanship that may otherwise go unnoticed.
    • Sportspersons of the Year: Recognizes outstanding sportsmanship from individuals.
  • Mascot: Features Add A. Tude, the nation's first and only sportsmanship mascot, who promotes good behavior at events and school visits.
