Course Description
The Building Trades program is a two-year course that covers basic and some advanced construction skills. Students engage in both classroom instruction and hands-on lab experiences. Upon completion, students will be proficient in many construction trades and prepared for entry-level positions in the field.
All students are required to wear safety glasses, boots, and proper clothing. Instructors will provide guidance on additional materials such as tools, gloves, and hats.
LLCC College Credit Courses
BDM102 – Introduction to Construction Occupation
Covers construction safety principles, proper use of hand and power tools, emergency and first aid procedures, and hazard prevention. Students also learn basic construction math, OSHA regulations, and code compliance.
BDM106 – Basic Carpentry I
Prepares students in rough carpentry techniques including foundation preparation, wall layout/framing, and exterior finishing. Emphasis is placed on construction materials, print reading, design, and safe operation of power tools.
BDM112 – Construction Blueprint Reading
Students learn to read and interpret construction symbols, blueprints, and building codes. The course focuses on sketching, dimensioning, and residential/light commercial construction blueprints.
