College Information
Welcome to the Hillsboro High School College Information page! Our goal is to provide students and families with the resources, guidance, and information needed to explore post-secondary opportunities, prepare for college, and successfully navigate the application process.
Planning for College
At HHS, we encourage students to begin planning for college early. Planning includes:
-
Exploring career interests and potential majors
-
Researching colleges, universities, and vocational programs
-
Understanding admission requirements and deadlines
-
Preparing for standardized tests (SAT, ACT, AP exams)
College Admissions Resources
HHS provides a variety of tools to help students with college admissions:
-
College Visits & Fairs: Representatives from colleges and universities visit HHS throughout the year. Check the school calendar for upcoming events.
-
Counselor Support: Our school counselors, Kelly Kenny (Academic, Scheduling, and College/Career Guidance) and Katie Hilgert (Student Services Coordinator), are available for individual planning and college application assistance.
-
Application Guidance: Step-by-step support for applications, essays, and recommendation letters.
- Introducing One Click College Admit for Juniors
How It Works:
Parent Opt-In: The first step is for a parent or guardian to opt in to the program.
Student Account Setup: Students create a Common App account and enter their information.
GPA Submission: The school will provide each student’s GPA (parental opt-in is required for this step).
For more details, visit: One Click College Admit for High School Juniors.
-
This program is designed to be completed during junior year, and by the fall of senior year, students can start receiving college acceptance emails—with no application fees, essays, or letters of recommendation required. One Click College Admit works with many state universities and most community colleges.
Financial Aid & Scholarships
Understanding the cost of college and how to pay for it is critical. HHS helps students and families navigate:
-
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid): Completion of the FAFSA is a graduation requirement, or students may submit a waiver. This form is required for federal and many state financial aid programs.
-
Scholarship Opportunities: Information on local, regional, and national scholarships is updated regularly on this page.
-
Financial Aid Workshops: Workshops are held throughout the year to guide families through the financial aid process.
College & Career Planning Tools
Students are encouraged to explore career pathways and colleges using online resources, including:
-
College search websites and virtual tours
-
Career interest assessments
-
Scholarship and grant databases
